Opportunities at MCA

Building Services Technician (Electrical)

Overview

Practical experience of undertaking installation work and solving problems on site is invaluable, and we recognise that it cannot be taught at university. Our experience tells us that those who have practical experience are often best placed to undertake the design of electrical installations. Some of those who develop into the best engineers have come from a practical background, usually having completed a trade apprenticeship at some point.

We are looking for a time-served electrician with experience of designing electrical installations. Someone who is a self-starter and keen learner. Someone with ambition to develop themselves through further study at college and/or university.

We are looking for a warm, friendly, confident, positive, and enthusiastic individual who is looking keen to invest in their own professional development and who is looking for an employer to invest with them.

If you live within travelling distance from our office in Horsham, and if these questions make you want to explore the possibility of progressing your career in engineering, then we would like to hear from you.

Experience:

The candidate we are looking for should have:

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 or 5 years post-qualification experience
  • We are looking for an individual who is fully conversant with the requirements of BS7671 (as amended), and familiar with designing and specifying a range of electrical installations, especially low and high rise residential.
  • Experience carrying out cable sizing calculations
  • Ability to assist our clients with the development of a brief defining design requirements and follow up with managing client expectations from inception to completion of each project.
  • Sufficient experience to quickly develop realistic concept designs in order to assist fellow professionals with shaping the building design at an early stage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proactive approach to communicating with other engineers within the practice to produce carefully considered and well-coordinated engineering design drawings and written specifications.
  • Well-developed proactive interpersonal skills which suit a client facing role.
  • Keen sense of professional development and self-motivated improvement.
  • Experience in working with AutoCAD is desirable.
  • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of current legislative requirements and design standard standards influencing electrical services design.
  • A bright and enthusiastic outlook and attitude.
